Integrating acupuncture into the assisted reproductive process

We work alongside your Reproductive Endocrinologist, supporting your doctor’s efforts and protocol. Our patients appreciate our boutique and personalized touch, especially when compared to other high volume facilities. A combination of acupuncture and/or herbal medicine effectively complements your A.R.T. treatment and significantly boosts your chances for success. Research shows that acupuncture can increase the efficacy of IVF procedures by up to 45%.

How to combine acupuncture and ART for reproductive success

Preparation: By participating in a full series of Traditional Chinese Medical treatments in advance of ART procedures, you can improve your overall health and regulate your nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems. Acupuncture will allow optimal possibilities for conception and a smoother ART procedure if given prior to embryo retrieval.

During fertility medication protocol: Acupuncture reduces medication side effects, which can vary, depending on the person, from mood swings to indigestion. It also helps to increase blood flow to your uterus, thickening the endometrial lining and preparing it for implantation.

Embryo transfer: We will provide acupuncture before and after your transfer. That alone will increase your chances of pregnancy by reducing stress, relaxing the uterus and reducing cramping.

We also recommend to patients that they receive a minimum of nine-weeks of consistent acupuncture treatment while following our comprehensive lifestyle recommendations. We will focus on regulating imbalances that may be occurring elsewhere in the body, which is a different approach from Western medicine.

While underlying issues like IBS or anxiety might not be of primary concern to a reproductive endocrinologist, they are vitally important from a Chinese Medicine viewpoint. Any imbalance, whether digestive, menstrual, emotional or dietary, needs to be restored to maximize a person’s fertile potential.
