Lyme Disease

home / Lyme Disease

Lyme is the most commonly reported tickborne disease in the Tri-State area and the United States.

Chinese Medicine offers one of the pillars in Lyme and TBD (tick borne disease) treatments by imparting support for the individuals constitution and general capacity to heal itself. The more fortified the body (immunity), the more apt it is to defend itself from disease. Chinese Medicine addresses Lyme and TBD with multiple therapeutics, which may include Chinese herbs, Acupuncture, Cupping, Tuina, and Gua Sha. Dietary therapeutics that address inflammation and underlying gastrointestinal imbalances may also be recommended.

At early onset, Western treatment should be prompt to prevent permanent damage. Antibiotic treatment for 3-4 weeks with Doxycycline or Amoxicillin is generally effective in the early infection stage. However, treatment failures are not uncommon and re-treatment may be necessary, depending on the underlying circumstances of the individual.

Amidst the complexities of Lyme and TBD is the failure to properly diagnose. For many, TBD is initially undetected through routine blood tests, resulting in extended periods of infection and stress on the patient. This is where alternative therapy, like Acupuncture and Auricular medicine, can very effectively deliver. We all know Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are both exceptional at relieving body aches and stress, but for boosting immunity they can be especially helpful for those who exhibit side effects associated with prolonged antibiotic use.
